Heading into central Oregon, on the east side of the Cascades.  Natural scenery was spectacular, but there were less people to generate interesting stories.

Looking for a place to camp, I stumbled upon Smith Rock State Park.  It is a rock climber's paradise.  An old volcanic neck that is now being eroded away.

Smith Rocks reflected in the river.

I arrived at Smith Rock in late evening and set up my tent.

By next morning the views were great. See Mt. Jefferson's snow cap to the west.

Some of the rock wall.
