Touring Tillamook Cheese plant is a favorite stop.  It did take a long time to find break in traffic, on Highway 101, to turn in.

Tillamook still has a lot of farm town flavor.  A 92 year old lady, named Mildred, Davy still red birthday greetings over her morning talk show on KTIL Radio.  Everyone can feel important, for one day a year, at least.

Show started in 1961.  A long and proud heritage.

Her schedule included an interview with someone from the local garden club and she also took the time to read announcements in church bulletins.

Something rare and precious in broadcasting;  authentic local content.

This isn't the Super Bowl, where only big

corporations can afford a mere 30 second spot.

I enjoyed Mildred for local flavor, but another cyclist told me that he was wondering when "that old bag would shut up."  It was the only station he could get on his cheap walkman and he was looking for music.  "Energy on a hill climb."

Was he being too focused on just the ride?  Counting cadences and so forth?

I remember he was a lawyer and had his trip all mapped out to a science.  That's the focus of an athlete, but not my eclectic mindset while cycling.  I am constantly distracted by so many unexpected joys, such as unique radio shows.

Listening to her show, I wanted to go up one hill extra slow so as not to crest over the top and drop down out of the FM signal.
