I took the sky ride up mount Howard to
over 8,000 feet. Looks out into the Wallowa Mountains to the south
and west. Looks north to Wallowa Lake and wheat fields beyond.
Hells Canyon to the east. Quite a view, I think into 3 states.

Back at the base. Wallowa Lake.
On one side, a glacial morain holds
Wallowa Lake against its mountain backdrop.

Cycling on through La Grande,
Elgin and Enterprise in 2001, I was in the north east corner of Oregon;
home of the majestic Wallowa Mountains. Many of these peaks rise over
8,000 Ft. In Enterprise, I met a woman who felt she had lived in that
isolated town for too long. "Everyone is into everyone's business."
"There needs to be some fresh energy and thinking."
